Stefano Occhetti Langhe DOC Nebbiolo 2024 is produced by Stefano Occhetti, a small, quality-focused grower based in the Roero area of Piedmont, north-west Italy. Drawing on family vineyards in Monteu Roero and Vezza d’Alba, Stefano works with Nebbiolo grown at 260–280 metres above sea level on predominantly sandy soils. These south, south-west and south-east facing sites benefit from excellent sunlight and cooling evenings, typical of the Langhe and Roero hills, allowing Nebbiolo to ripen with perfume and balance. Viticulture is hands-on and sustainable in approach.
The 2024 Langhe DOC Nebbiolo is made from 100% Nebbiolo, harvested manually in early October using small 20 kg crates. Fermentation occurs spontaneously in concrete tanks, followed by a traditional floating-cap maceration lasting 12–14 days. Malolactic fermentation takes place partly in wood and steel, before ageing for seven months in French oak vats and used barriques. The wine shows an intense ruby colour with early orange tinges, fresh aromas of flowers and red fruits, and a soft yet structured palate with fine tannins and persistent balance. Serve at 16–18°C with mushroom risotto, roasted meats, game birds or semi-aged cheeses.
