Description

Produced by Bodegas Amezola in Rioja Alta, Señorío de Amezola Reserva is the flagship wine of one of the region’s few genuine château-style estates, where every bottle is made exclusively from the family’s own vineyards. The modern history of the winery is closely tied to the Amezola sisters, María and Cristina, who assumed responsibility for the estate at a remarkably young age following the untimely death of their father, Íñigo Amezola. Íñigo had been one of the pioneers of the château concept in Rioja, reviving the family’s long winemaking heritage with the conviction that the finest wines should come solely from estate-grown fruit. The sisters have continued and refined that vision, combining respect for tradition with a meticulous approach to vineyard management. Their vineyards around Torremontalbo are planted on clay-limestone and alluvial soils under the cooling influence of the Atlantic climate, with sustainable farming and low yields ensuring an authentic expression of the family estate.

Made predominantly from Tempranillo, with small proportions of traditional Rioja varieties depending on the vintage, the Reserva is fermented and aged with the aim of preserving the purity and balance of the estate fruit. The château philosophy gives the family complete control over every stage of production, from vineyard to bottle, resulting in a wine that consistently reflects its origin. Aromas of ripe cherry, blackberry and plum are layered with notes of cedar, vanilla, tobacco leaf, sweet spice and dried herbs, the result of careful oak maturation and extended bottle ageing. The palate is elegant and finely structured, with polished tannins, vibrant acidity and a long, savoury finish supported by a subtle mineral freshness. Combining the classical character of Rioja Reserva with the precision of an estate-grown wine, Señorío de Amezola is both a tribute to Íñigo Amezola’s legacy and a testament to the work of the two sisters who have carried that vision forward.
