Rene Favre is a family owned winery based in the Valais canton of Switzerland, specifically in the central Valais winegrowing area around Chamoson. The vineyards are located in the Swiss Rhône River Valley, which should not be confused with the Rhône wine regions of France. Here, the river cuts through the Alps, creating steep, sun exposed vineyard terraces at altitude. The climate is dry and continental with strong sunlight and cool nights, allowing grapes to retain freshness and aromatic precision. Soils are predominantly glacial deposits, schist, gneiss and rocky alluvial material, giving pronounced minerality. Viticulture is largely manual due to the extreme slopes and follows sustainable practices, though not formally certified organic.
Rene Favre Petite Arvine 2023 is made from 100% Petite Arvine, a signature white grape of Valais known for its vibrant acidity and distinctive saline character. The fruit is sourced from hillside vineyards around Chamoson within the Swiss Rhône River Valley. After careful hand harvesting, fermentation takes place in temperature controlled stainless steel to preserve purity and aromatic detail. The wine is typically aged on fine lees for around 3 to 6 months to enhance texture while maintaining freshness. It shows aromas of grapefruit, lime, white peach and alpine flowers, alongside a characteristic salty, mineral finish. The palate is precise, linear and refreshing with a long finish. It is drinking well now and can develop further complexity over 3 to 5 years. It pairs well with shellfish, lake fish, alpine cheeses and light vegetable dishes.
