Pizzorno Mayusculas Albarino 2026

Mayúsculas Albariño comes from Pizzorno’s Don José vineyard in Canelones, where the family has been making wine for four generations since 1910. The vines are influenced by the maritime conditions of southern Uruguay, with cooling Atlantic breezes and the moderating influence of the Río de la Plata helping to preserve the variety’s naturally lively acidity. The vineyard soils are loamy-clay with a calcareous subsoil, while the gently sloping site has a north-easterly exposure. Pizzorno farms its estate with an emphasis on environmental care, avoiding soil fertilisation and using water rationally. This is a deliberately fresh interpretation of Albariño, focusing on purity, citrus character and the bright, saline-tinged freshness that suits the variety so well in Uruguay.

Made from 100% Albariño, the wine is fermented in stainless steel to retain the grape’s aromatic freshness and is unoaked, keeping the palate clean and energetic. Grapefruit and lime lead the nose, followed by white flowers, citrus zest and ripe pineapple. The palate is dry and light-bodied, with crisp acidity giving the wine plenty of lift and a refreshing, clean finish. There is a subtle mineral quality beneath the citrus and tropical fruit, adding definition without making the wine feel austere. Its combination of freshness and modest alcohol makes it particularly versatile with oysters, prawns, mussels, grilled fish, ceviche, sushi, salads and soft cheeses. Serve well chilled.
