Pietri Geraud 'Mademoiselle O' Banyuls Rimage

Domaine Piétri Géraud is a historic family estate founded at the end of the nineteenth century in the Banyuls and Collioure area of the Languedoc Roussillon region of Southern France, now run by Maguy Piétri Géraud and her daughter Laëtitia, representing the fifth generation of winemakers. The steep terraces of schist soils on the foothills where the Pyrenees meet the Mediterranean provide the rugged terroir typical of Banyuls vines, grown on hand worked vineyards with very low yields. The Banyuls AOC’s Mediterranean climate and schist terroir contribute intense fruit concentration and structure to fortified wines from Grenache noir.

The Mademoiselle O Banyuls Rimage is a vin doux naturel made from 100% Grenache noir, harvested from older hillside vines and vinified as a Banyuls “muté sur grain”, meaning fermentation is stopped by the addition of spirit while on the skins to retain vivid colour and fruit. After a traditional three week maceration and gentle press, the wine is aged in full tank on fine lees under reductive conditions rather than exposed to air, preserving vibrant cherry and raspberry intensity. Expect a deep ruby colour with powerful black cherry, raspberry liqueur and spice notes, velvety texture and soft tannins. This rich dessert wine pairs brilliantly with dark chocolate, berry tarts, red fruit salads and mature cheeses, and can also be enjoyed lightly chilled as an aperitif.
