Papaioannou Nemea Old Vines Agiorgitiko 2020 is produced by Papaioannou Vineyards, a family-run estate in Ancient Nemea in the Peloponnese, one of Greece’s most important red-wine regions. The wine is made from grapes sourced from an old-vines parcel of Agiorgitiko within the Nemea PDO, typically from vines around 40–45 years old that lend concentration and structure. The estate’s viticulture emphasises careful vineyard management with hand harvesting, and the wine ie vagn friendly. Nemea’s warm Mediterranean climate with cool nights and well-drained soils helps develop ripe fruit and expressive varietal character.

The 2020 vintage is 100% Agiorgitiko, classically fermented as a dry red and matured in oak for approximately 12 months, followed by further bottle ageing to develop complexity and balance. It shows a deep ruby colour with complex aromas of red and dark fruits, spice, pepper and subtle herb notes, supported by firm but ripe tannins and fresh acidity. The palate is rich and balanced with a long finish, making it a great match for grilled lamb, roast beef, hearty stews or robust Mediterranean dishes served at around 16–18 °C. This wine has the potential to age well for several years, rewarding further development in the cellar.
