Napheri Saperavi Special Reserve 2023
Napheri is a Georgian wine producer focused on traditional varieties and modern winemaking techniques, sourcing fruit primarily from the Kakheti region, the heart of Georgian viticulture. The vineyards benefit from a continental climate with hot summers and cool nights, ideal for ripening Saperavi. Soils are typically alluvial with clay and limestone elements, contributing structure and depth. The winery works with careful vineyard management and sustainable practices, though not formally certified organic. Georgian winemaking often blends tradition with modern methods.
Napheri Saperavi Special Reserve 2023 is made from 100% Saperavi, a deeply coloured indigenous grape known for its richness and structure. The wine is fermented with 14 days of skin contact and then aged for addintional 6 months in the tradition qvevri clay pots. It is then transferred to oak barrels for a further 6 months of aging to develop complexity and soften tannins. It shows intense aromas of black cherry, blackberry and plum, with notes of spice, chocolate and subtle vanilla. The palate is full bodied with firm tannins and balanced acidity, leading to a long finish. It pairs well with grilled meats, lamb, stews and aged cheeses.
