Napheri Saperavi 2023
Napheri Saperavi 2023 is a dry red wine from the Napheri family winery in Georgia, made from 100% Saperavi, the country’s most celebrated indigenous grape variety. The grapes are typically sourced from the Kakheti region of eastern Georgia, notably around the Telavi district, where warm days, cool nights and well drained soils help develop deep colour and balanced acidity. The winery employs traditional Georgian qvevri winemaking, fermenting with wild yeasts and extended skin contact.
The 2023 vintage is fermented entirely in qvevri clay vessels using wild yeasts with full skin contact for around ten days, followed by extended maceration and ageing in qvevri, resulting in a dark, inky ruby wine with rich structure and depth. Aromas include blackcurrant, plum and pepper with smooth, medium acidity and a long, lingering finish. Best served at about 16–18°C, it pairs beautifully with grilled lamb, roasted meats, hearty stews and aged cheeses that complement Saperavi’s bold fruit and firm tannins.
