Marthe Henry Meursault 'Sous la Velle' 2022
Produced by Marthe Henry, a Meursault-based vigneronne and granddaughter of the respected grower Pierre Boillot, Meursault Sous la Velle 2022 reflects both deep family roots in the Côte de Beaune and a precise, terroir-focused approach to Burgundy. After training in Beaune and working with several respected domaines across the region, Henry established her own small-scale project in 2017, focusing on carefully selected vineyard parcels and a philosophy of sustainable viticulture and minimal intervention. The 2022 vintage in Burgundy is widely considered one of the most complete recent years, combining excellent ripeness with striking balance, freshness and concentration despite a warm and dry growing season. From the historic Sous la Velle site at the foot of the Meursault slope on clay-limestone soils, the wine captures both the generosity of the vintage and the mineral drive of the appellation.
The wine is vinified in a restrained style with a notably patient élevage of around 18 to 24 months in older Burgundian barrels, without new oak influence or bâtonnage, allowing texture and complexity to build slowly while preserving clarity and precision. The 2022 shows aromas of ripe citrus, pear and white peach alongside notes of acacia blossom, toasted almond and wet stone. The palate is concentrated yet finely balanced, combining rich orchard fruit with vibrant acidity and a chalky mineral backbone that brings length and definition. Still youthful and tightly structured, it has the depth and balance to evolve gracefully over 10 to 15 years, gaining further complexity and nuance with bottle age.
