Lavina Takveri 2023 is a dry red wine from Georgia made entirely from the indigenous Tavkveri grape, grown in the Kartli and/or Kakheti regions where this variety is traditional. Tavkveri is a native Georgian red grape known for its bright fruit and balanced acidity, and Georgian wines are often crafted by smaller producers with minimal intervention. Tavkveri thrives in well drained soils under a continental climate with warm days and cool nights, showing pronounced regional character.
The 2023 vintage is made from 100% Tavkveri, hand harvested and vinified according to traditional methods that aim to preserve fresh fruit expression. It typically sees fermentation in stainless steel or traditional vessels before ageing briefly in inert containers with no significant oak influence, allowing the vibrant fruit and soft tannins to remain in focus. In the glass it shows a medium ruby colour with aromas of blueberry, red currant and underbrush, fresh acidity and a supple structure balancing soft, ripe tannins. Best served at around 14–16°C, it pairs well with grilled salmon, mushroom risotto, barbecue chicken or a cheese and charcuterie board.
