Keermont Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
Produced by Keermont Vineyards in the Upper Blaauwklippen Valley of Stellenbosch, Keermont Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic expression of one of South Africa's finest regions for Bordeaux varieties. Established by Mark and Monica Wraith in 2003, the estate was created by assembling a collection of historic vineyard parcels in a spectacular mountain amphitheatre between the Helderberg and Stellenbosch Mountains. Today, Keermont is recognised as one of the Cape's leading producers of terroir-driven wines, crafting every bottle exclusively from estate-grown fruit using a thoughtful, minimal-intervention philosophy. This Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced entirely from the estate's Cottage Lane Vineyard, situated on the slopes of the Helderberg at around 320 metres above sea level. Planted on well-drained, clay-rich soils and cooled by breezes from nearby False Bay, the vineyard consistently produces Cabernet Sauvignon of remarkable purity, structure and elegance.
Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon harvested in small batches and fermented with indigenous yeasts before maturing for 21 months in seasoned French oak barriques. Following barrel ageing, the wine spent a further 16 months maturing in bottle prior to release, allowing its complex flavours and refined structure to harmonise. Aromas of cassis, blackberry and blackcurrant are layered with notes of graphite, cedar, black pepper, thyme and subtle earthy spice. The palate is poised and beautifully structured, combining finely grained tannins with vibrant natural acidity and a long, mineral finish that reflects the distinctive Helderberg terroir. Classical, elegant and built for longevity, Keermont Cabernet Sauvignon is a superb partner for roast beef, lamb, venison and mature cheeses, while promising many years of graceful bottle development.
