Heritiers du Comte Lafon Macon Uchizy 2020
Héritiers du Comte Lafon continues the legacy established by the Dominique Lafon, one of Burgundy’s most respected winemakers. He retired from running the family estate in Meursault at the end of 2021, handing over duties to his daughter and nephew. While the domaine is primarily based in Meursault in the Côte de Beaune, it also owns and manages vineyards in the Mâconnais, including parcels in Mâcon-Uchizy, where it applies the same meticulous attention to terroir and quality. The vineyards are planted on gently rolling slopes of limestone, clay and clay marl soils near the village of Uchizy, benefitting from good drainage and cool influences that preserve acidity and aromatic freshness. Viticulture is managed with careful, low intervention principles, focusing on soil health and balanced canopies, though the domaine is not formally certified organic or biodynamic. The 2020 vintage in the Mâconnais was warm with a long, sunny growing season and good diurnal temperature shifts, yielding grapes with ripe fruit character, vibrant acidity and well balanced phenolic maturity.
Héritiers du Comte Lafon Mâcon Uchizy 2020 is made from hand harvested Chardonnay grapes that are then gently pressed before fermentation with indigenous yeasts at cool temperatures to preserve purity of fruit. The wine is aged on fine lees in stainless steel and neutral vessels for approximately eight to ten months to build texture and complexity without overt oak influence, resulting in a fresh, expressive style. On the nose it offers aromas of green apple, pear, citrus blossom and subtle flinty minerality, with a palate that combines vibrant acidity, crisp fruit and a lingering, saline finish. It pairs beautifully with oysters, grilled seafood, white fish, creamy poultry and soft cheeses. Already drinking well, the 2020 can develop further complexity over the next 5-7 years.
