Description

Emmanuel Darnaud established his domaine in 2001 in La Roche-de-Glun, in the northern Rhône, initially working with just 1.5 hectares of vines. Having learned his trade alongside his father-in-law, renowned Hermitage producer Bernard Faurie, he has gradually expanded the estate while maintaining a strong focus on vineyard quality and expressing individual sites. Mise en Bouche is a blend of several parcels planted on glacial alluvial soils, rich in rounded stones and pebbles. The younger vines, generally under 25 years old, produce fruit with plenty of freshness and immediate appeal. The domaine has been certified organic by Ecocert since the 2023 vintage, reflecting its commitment to healthier soils and responsible vineyard management.

Made from 100% Syrah, the grapes are harvested by hand and partially destemmed, depending on the vintage. Fermentation takes place in concrete or stainless-steel tanks over approximately 15 days, followed by 12 months of ageing, mainly in tank with a small proportion in oak barrels. The result is an approachable, fruit-driven Crozes-Hermitage, with flavours of ripe blackberry, blackcurrant and cherry, complemented by black pepper, liquorice and hints of herbs. Smooth and rounded on the palate, it has supple but present tannins and a refreshing finish. A particularly enjoyable introduction to northern Rhône Syrah, ready to drink now after a little time in a decanter. Serve with grilled lamb, roast beef, sausages or mature cheeses.
