Description

Domaine Marquis d’Angerville is one of Burgundy’s most respected family estates, with a history dating back to the 12th century in the village of Volnay in the Côte de Beaune. The domaine is known for its meticulous, terroir-driven approach and has remained family-owned for generations, with current stewardship emphasising traditional viticulture alongside careful modern practices. The vineyards are located throughout the Volnay Premier Cru zone, on limestone, clay and marl soils that are characteristic of the Côte de Beaune’s elegant, refined style. The 2023 vintage in Burgundy was marked by warm, sunny conditions tempered by cool nights that helped retain bright acidity and aromatic freshness, producing vibrant, well-structured wines with excellent balance.

Domaine Marquis d’Angerville Volnay Premier Cru 2023 is a multi-climat blend of Premier Cru parcels within Volnay, showcasing the commune’s signature finesse and aromatic complexity. The wine is made from 100% Pinot Noir, hand-harvested and fermented with indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled vats. Ageing typically takes place for around 12 to 14 months in French oak barrels, with a proportion of new oak to add subtle structure without overpowering the fruit. The wine reveals delicate aromas of red cherry, raspberry, rose petal and earthy spice, supported by hints of savory underbrush and fine floral nuance, with a silky, layered palate and elegantly framed tannins. It pairs beautifully with roast duck, grilled lamb cutlets, pork tenderloin and mushroom risotto, as well as mild cheeses. The 2023 is already charming with decanting yet has the structure to age graciously over the next 8–12 years, gaining additional complexity. Critics have praised recent Volnay Premier Crus from the domaine for their “refined precision, layered aromatics and impeccable balance,” marking them among the standout Volnays of their vintages.
