Domaine de Trévallon is one of the most iconic estates in Provence, founded in 1973 by Éloi Dürrbach in the Alpilles near Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. The estate became famous for defying appellation rules by planting Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah in a region traditionally dominated by Mediterranean varieties, creating a wine of singular identity and global cult status. The vineyards sit on north facing slopes of limestone scree, blue marl and rocky clay soils, which bring freshness, structure and pronounced mineral tension despite the warm Mediterranean climate. The vineyards have been farmed organically since inception, without herbicides or pesticides, emphasising low yields and deep-rooted vines and a strong focus on biodiversity and manual vineyard work. The 2023 vintage in Provence was warm and generous but retained balance through cool nights, producing wines of ripe fruit, freshness and precision. In magnum, the wine benefits from slower evolution, preserving purity and enhancing ageing potential.

Domaine de Trévallon Rouge 2023 (Magnum) is a 50/50 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, hand harvested and fermented with indigenous yeasts, often with a proportion of whole bunches to enhance aromatic lift and structure. The wine is aged for approximately 24 months in large oak foudres and barrels, with minimal intervention to preserve its sense of place and purity. The magnum format allows for a slower, more harmonious development, giving greater finesse and longevity compared to standard bottles. Aromatically, it shows blackberry, black cherry, garrigue herbs, liquorice, cedar and subtle smoky earth, with a palate that is powerful yet refined, framed by firm but polished tannins and a long, savoury mineral finish. It pairs beautifully with roast lamb, game, grilled meats and Provençal dishes rich in herbs and olive oil. The 2023 is already expressive with decanting but will evolve for 15–25 years or more, particularly in magnum. The vintage has received strong critical acclaim, with scores in the mid to high 90s, described as “a benchmark Trévallon with remarkable balance, depth and ageing potential.”
