Domaine de Saint Pierre Château Renard 2022
Château Renard is produced by Domaine de Saint Pierre, run by Fabrice Dodane in the Jura village of Mathenay in eastern France. The estate is known for biodynamic farming and extremely low intervention winemaking across its small holdings in Arbois and Côtes du Jura. Vineyards are planted on classic Jura marl and limestone soils, which provide tension, salinity and a strong mineral backbone. The domaine works organically with meticulous vineyard management and hand harvesting, and the wine is made without fining or filtration and is suitable for vegan consumers.
The 2022 vintage is 100% Chardonnay, sourced from a single Jura vineyard site. Grapes are pressed whole cluster and fermented with indigenous yeasts, then aged for around 18 to 24 months in large neutral oak barrels under a topping-up (ouillĂŠ) regime to preserve freshness rather than oxidative character. The wine shows aromas of citrus peel, green apple and ripe pear alongside white flowers, subtle hazelnut and a distinctive smoky mineral note. The palate is precise and structured with vibrant acidity, layered texture and a long saline finish. It pairs beautifully with ComtĂŠ cheese, roast poultry, freshwater fish and creamy mushroom dishes.
