Domaine de la Vougeraie Gevrey Chambertin 2023
Established in 1999 by the Boisset family, Domaine de la Vougeraie brings together vineyards across some of Burgundy’s most respected appellations. Its Gevrey-Chambertin is a blend of several parcels around the village, including Grandes Rayes, Es Murots, Pince-Vin, Bel Air and Les Champs Perriers. The vineyards are organically farmed, with Ecocert certification, and combine different soil types, from pure and clay-rich silt to deeper clay, with varying levels of limestone. This diversity gives the wine its balance of ripe fruit, structure and freshness. The 2023 vintage benefited from a favourable growing season, producing well-ripened grapes while retaining the acidity needed for balance and ageing.
Made from 100% Pinot Noir, the grapes are hand-sorted before fermentation, with no commercial yeasts or enzymes added. The wine spends around 24 days in the fermentation vats before being aged for 15 months in French oak barrels, around 20% of which are new, followed by a month in stainless steel. The result is an expressive Burgundy with aromas and flavours of ripe cherry, raspberry and darker berries, complemented by subtle spice and earthy notes. Fine tannins and fresh acidity give it structure without overwhelming the fruit, leading to a long, savoury finish. Enjoy with roast duck, lamb, game birds or mushroom dishes.
