Domaine de la Grange des Pères is one of the most celebrated estates in the Languedoc, founded in 1989 by Laurent Vaillé just outside Aniane in the Hérault. Vaillé trained and transformed a rugged, limestone strewn site into a vineyard of exceptional quality, producing tiny quantities of highly expressive wine. The estate has achieved a genuine cult following among collectors and connoisseurs because of its scarcity, remarkable consistency and profound expression of terroir, making each vintage highly sought after and difficult to acquire on release. Vineyards are farmed using organic and biodynamic principles, focusing on low yields and meticulous vineyard work, though the wines are not formally certified.

The terroir is largely clay limestone with galets roulés and pebble components on south facing slopes of the Terrasses du Larzac zone, yielding intensely concentrated grapes in the Mediterranean climate that define the character of this renowned wine. This 2010 vintage comes from an IGP Pays d’Hérault designation, reflecting the inclusion of Cabernet Sauvignon alongside indigenous varieties that precludes AOC classification. 2010 in the Languedoc was a year of moderate heat and good ripening, yielding expressive, structured wines with pronounced varietal character and . 2010 was a strong vintage in the Languedoc, with balanced ripening that produced wines with both power, finesse and ageworthy potential, setting a benchmark for the region.

The 2010 Grange des Pères rouge is a blend of approximately 40% Syrah, 40% Mourvèdre and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, co fermented and aged for over two years in French oak barriques, creating a wine of depth and nuance with integrated oak influence. On the nose it typically shows dark berry fruit, cassis, spice, herbs and subtle earthy complexity, leading to a medium full bodied palate with velvety tannins, vibrant acidity and a long finish with mineral hints. Food pairings include grilled lamb, roast game, aged cheeses and rich tomato based dishes that complement the wine’s savoury weight and complexity. After ageing for over a decade, the 2010 is now in a mature drinking window with developed tertiary notes of leather, dried herbs and forest floor while still offering fresh fruit depth, and many bottles can continue to evolve gracefully for several more years in well maintained cellars. Critically it received strong feedback from top reviewers, including a 93 point score from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, noted as well balanced and expressive with harmonious structure.
