Cuilleron Cornas Le Village 2022
Yves Cuilleron is a third-generation winemaker in the Northern Rhône whose domaine spans around 100 hectares across top appellations like Condrieu, Côte-Rôtie, Saint-Joseph, Cornas and more. He practices sustainable viticulture, meaning no insecticides, minimal treatments, green harvesting and meticulously hand-worked vineyards. Since 2015 he has bottled individual lieux-dits, reflecting his passion for terroir and precision. The fruit for the Cornas Le Village 2022 comes from old vines on the steep, granitic slopes of the vineyards Les Côtes, Reynard and Cayret, where hand-harvesting is essential. Cornas is one of the smallest northern Rhône appellations and is famed for its pure Syrah, grown on sun-drenched south-facing terraces.
Le Village 2022 was fully de-stemmed and fermented in temperature-controlled open vats for three weeks with regular punch-downs and pumping-overs before completing malolactic fermentation in barrel. The wine was then aged for 18 months in oak in French oak barriques with only a modest proportion being new. The wine shows dark berry fruit, cracked pepper and herbal garrigue notes with firm tannins and spice. Pair with roast venison, slow-cooked lamb or wild mushroom ragù.
