Description

Château Troplong Mondot is a leading estate in Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux, with a history dating back to the 18th century and located at one of the highest points of the appellation. Classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé, the estate is known for producing powerful yet refined wines from a single, contiguous vineyard. The soils are a complex mix of limestone, clay and chalk, which provide structure, freshness and mineral depth. The 2004 vintage reflects a more classical Bordeaux style, shaped by moderate conditions that favoured balance and elegance over opulence.

The 2004 vintage is a blend dominated by Merlot (around 80–90%) with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Grapes are hand-harvested, with fermentation in temperature-controlled vats and extended maceration, followed by ageing for around 16–18 months in French oak barrels. The wine shows notes of blackberry, plum, tobacco, spice and liquorice, with velvety tannins and fresh acidity. Now showing tertiary flavours, it's still youthful with plenty of fruit. The drinking window is approximately 2020 to 2035.
