2006
The noteworthy, classic Margauxs from this estate remain under most consumers’ radar. Displaying low acidity and a forward style, the exotic 2003 is undeniably fragrant, complex, and sexy. Its dark ruby/purple color is followed by sumptuous aromas of truffles, underbrush, plums, cassis, and a hint of figs. The tannin is sweet, and the texture is multilayered. This full-bodied, chewy, round, sensual Margaux should evolve gracefully for 15+ years. Bravo!
Description

Produced by Château Malescot St. Exupéry in Margaux, this is a beautifully mature expression of one of the Médoc’s most respected Third Growth estates. Classified as a Troisième Cru Classé (Third Growth) in the 1855 Classification, the château has earned a reputation for producing richly textured yet elegant wines that faithfully capture the finesse of Margaux. Owned by the Zuger family since 1955, the estate has undergone a remarkable renaissance through meticulous vineyard management and significant investment, becoming one of the appellation’s most consistent performers. Its vineyards occupy superb gravelly soils typical of central Margaux, where Cabernet Sauvignon develops exceptional aromatic refinement while Merlot contributes richness and charm. The 2002 vintage produced classically proportioned Bordeaux, favouring elegance, freshness and aromatic complexity, and has matured gracefully over more than two decades.

Made predominantly from Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, Château Malescot St. Exupéry 2002 was traditionally vinified before ageing in French oak barrels to refine its structure and complexity. The wine now reveals an expressive bouquet of cassis, black cherry and plum intertwined with violet, cedar, graphite, cigar box, tobacco, leather, forest floor and delicate spice. The palate is wonderfully harmonious, with silky, fully integrated tannins, vibrant acidity and the floral elegance that defines the finest wines of Margaux. Long, savoury and beautifully balanced, it offers the graceful maturity that only extended bottle ageing can provide while still retaining impressive freshness. It pairs superbly with roast lamb, duck, venison, beef Wellington, mushroom dishes and mature hard cheeses.
