Château-Grillet is one of the most historic and distinctive estates in the Northern Rhône, with viticultural roots dating back to Roman times and formally established as a monopole in 1936. Since 2011 it has been owned by the Pinault family of Artemis Domaines, who have invested significantly in restoring the vineyards and cellars and elevating quality. In addition to its monopole holdings, the estate produces La Carthery from carefully selected parcels in neighbouring Condrieu, all planted with Viognier on steep, terraced slopes overlooking the Rhône River. The vineyards are farmed organically and are certified organic, with biodynamic principles increasingly applied and viticulture is entirely manual due to the steep terrain. Soils are predominantly decomposed granite with mica and quartz, contributing finesse, minerality and aromatic precision. The 2023 vintage in the Northern Rhône benefited from a warm growing season balanced by cooler nights, producing wines with excellent aromatic expression, freshness and structure.

Château-Grillet Condrieu La Carthery 2023 is made from 100 per cent Viognier, harvested by hand and fermented with indigenous yeasts. The wine is aged for approximately 10 to 12 months in French oak barrels, mostly used, allowing gentle development while preserving the purity of fruit and floral character. It shows lifted aromas of apricot, white peach, citrus blossom and honeysuckle, with subtle spice and mineral undertones. The palate is elegant and textured, with fresh acidity and a long, refined finish. It pairs beautifully with lobster, scallops, roast chicken, creamy poultry dishes and fine cheeses. While already expressive in youth, the wine will continue to gain complexity over the next 10 years.
