Cape Mentelle Marmaduke Chardonnay 2025
The Marmaduke range takes its name from Marmaduke Terry, one of the early settlers of Margaret River, where Cape Mentelle has been established since 1970. The Chardonnay is made to express the character of the variety and region with freshness and purity at its core. Cool-hour harvesting and careful canopy management help preserve bright fruit and aromatic definition, resulting in a style that is considerably fresher and less oak-driven than many richer Australian Chardonnays.
Gently pressed fruit is fermented in tank on fine lees, with only a portion of the wine matured in oak to add texture and subtle complexity rather than dominate the fruit. White flowers and tropical notes combine with yellow stone fruit and delicate brioche, while the palate is rounded and textural but carried by fresh acidity. The restrained oak influence leaves the Chardonnay clean and focused, making it particularly appealing to drinkers who enjoy the freshness and purity of unoaked Chablis.
