Barahonda Tinto Monastrell
Barahonda is a historic family owned winery in the Yecla Designation of Origin in southeastern Spain, founded by the Candela family nearly a century ago and now operated by successive generations who champion the indigenous Monastrell grape. The vineyards are planted on highaltitude sites between 400 and 800 metres above sea level, on deep, free draining soils of limestone, clay and sand that promote balanced ripening in an arid Mediterranean climate with significant diurnal temperature variation. Sustainable farming and meticulous vineyard care are central to their approach.
Barahonda Tinto Monastrell 2023 is made from fruit harvested from estate vineyards where the grape thrives, showing intense red fruit character and spice. Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel under controlled temperatures to preserve purity and the wine is bottled young to showcase vibrant fruit expression rather than extended oak influence. The palate offers ripe cherry and plum with hints of pepper and savoury herbs, leading to a long, persistent finish. This versatile wine pairs beautifully with grilled red meats, hearty stews, rich tomato dishes and aged cheeses, making it a delicious choice for everyday dining or casual gatherings.
