Lieu Dit Suavignon Blanc 2021
Produced by Lieu Dit, the collaborative project created by winemakers Justin Willett and Eric Railsback in Santa Barbara County, California. Inspired by the classic wines of the Loire Valley, the project focuses on restrained, site driven expressions of traditional French grape varieties grown in California’s cool coastal vineyards. The Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from sustainably farmed sites within the Santa Ynez Valley and surrounding coastal areas, where Pacific fog and ocean breezes moderate the warm Californian climate. Vineyards are planted on sandy loam, chalky limestone and marine influenced soils that contribute freshness, texture and mineral character.
Harvested by hand and fermented primarily in stainless steel with a portion aged in neutral French oak barrels to add texture without overt oak influence. The wine spends several months on fine lees before bottling, enhancing complexity and mouthfeel while preserving varietal purity. It shows lifted aromas of grapefruit, lime zest and white peach alongside notes of fresh herbs, wet stone and white flowers. The palate is crisp yet layered with bright acidity, subtle salinity and a long mineral finish. It pairs beautifully with oysters, grilled prawns, goat’s cheese, sushi and fresh summer salads.
