RAEN Fort Ross-Seaview Charles Ranch Chardonnay 2024
Produced by RAEN Winery on the remote Sonoma Coast of California, where Carlo and Dante Mondavi focus on cool climate, terroir driven wines made with organic and biodynamic principles. The Charles Ranch vineyard lies within the Fort Ross-Seaview AVA at high elevation close to the Pacific Ocean, benefiting from persistent coastal fog, strong maritime winds and a long slow growing season. These conditions preserve acidity and aromatic detail while allowing gradual ripening. The vineyard is planted on steep slopes with fractured sandstone, shale and volcanic soils that contribute pronounced minerality and tension. Farming is carried out sustainably with minimal intervention.
The 2024 vintage is made from Chardonnay harvested entirely by hand from the Charles Ranch vineyard. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in French oak barrels, followed by ageing for around 10 months on fine lees in predominantly neutral oak to enhance texture while preserving vineyard character. The wine displays aromas of lemon zest, white peach and green pear layered with jasmine, sea spray, crushed stone and delicate brioche notes. The palate is vibrant and finely structured with saline acidity, subtle creaminess and a long mineral driven finish. It pairs exceptionally well with oysters, lobster, grilled fish and roast poultry in light cream sauces.
