4 Kilos Vinícola is a small, independent winery based in Mallorca, founded in 2006 by Francesc Grimalt and Sergio Caballero. The project is focused on low intervention winemaking and the expression of indigenous Balearic varieties, with vineyards mainly in the Pla i Llevant area. The Mediterranean climate brings hot, dry summers tempered by sea breezes, helping maintain freshness in the grapes. Soils are predominantly calcareous with limestone and clay, often poor and stony, encouraging low yields and concentration. The estate works with certified organic viticulture and follows biodynamic principles in many parcels, with a strong focus on soil health, biodiversity and minimal chemical intervention. The 2022 vintage reflects a warm growing season balanced by careful organic vineyard management.
Tanuki Bob 2022 is made from 100% Manto Negro, an indigenous Mallorcan variety valued for its aromatic, supple character. The grapes are organically farmed, hand harvested and fermented with indigenous yeasts, often using partial whole cluster fermentation to enhance lift and complexity. The wine is aged for around 8 to 10 months in neutral oak and stainless steel to preserve purity and freshness while adding subtle texture. It shows aromas of red cherry, raspberry and wild Mediterranean herbs with a gentle savoury, smoky edge. The palate is medium bodied, juicy and vibrant with soft tannins and bright acidity. It is best served slightly chilled and pairs well with grilled vegetables, pork dishes and Mediterranean tapas.
