Chateau Baron Clement Lalande de Pomerol
Château Baron Clément is a small family run estate in Lalande-de-Pomerol on Bordeaux’s Right Bank, just north of the Pomerol plateau. The vineyards are planted mainly to Merlot on gently sloping sites with clay and gravel soils, where clay promotes richness and gravel aids drainage and even ripening. Vineyard work is carried out parcel by parcel, with careful pruning, canopy management, green harvesting and hand picking to control yields and ensure healthy fruit. The estate follows lutte raisonnée principles, encouraging sustainability and biodiversity, although it is not certified organic or biodynamic.
Château Baron Clément Lalande-de-Pomerol 2019 is predominantly Merlot with a smaller proportion of Cabernet Franc, a blend that brings supple fruit and gentle structure. The excellent 2019 Right Bank vintage benefited from warm, dry conditions and cool nights, producing ripe yet balanced wines. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled vats to preserve fruit purity, followed by ageing for around 12 months in French oak barrels. The wine shows expressive plum, black cherry and subtle spice, with smooth tannins and freshness. It pairs beautifully with roast lamb, grilled beef, duck or earthy mushroom dishes.
