Ziereisen TS 23
Weingut Ziereisen is a highly regarded family run estate in Efringen Kirchen in the Baden wine region of south west Germany, right in the “three-country corner” bordering France’s Alsace and Switzerland, where limestone rich soils and a warm yet moderate climate echo Burgundian terroir. The Ziereisen family have tended vines here for generations, applying sustainable, low intervention viticulture with use of chemical sprays kept to a minimum. Their Pinot Noir parcels sit on loess over loam and Jurassic limestone soils, giving wines mineral tension and refined fruit character that express this unique terroir with clarity and grace.
The Ziereisen TS 23 is a classic expression of 100% Pinot Noir (Blauer Spätburgunder) from the estate’s Tschuppen site, fermented spontaneously and matured for approximately two years in large wooden fuder barrels before bottling unfined and largely unfiltered, capturing purity of fruit and site. It typically shows bright cherry and red berry aromas with floral and subtle earthy notes, a fresh, elegant palate with ripe tannins and a refined mineral finish and good ageing potential over the next decade. The wine’s balance and acidity make it an excellent partner for roast poultry, grilled pork, mushroom dishes and lightly spiced foods, bringing out both savoury and fruity elements on the plate.
