Ziereisen TAL/Talrain 2021
Produced by Weingut Ziereisen in Baden, Germany’s warmest wine region, Talrain Spätburgunder 2021 is a distinctive expression of Pinot Noir from one of the country’s most respected artisan estates. Hanspeter and Edeltraud Ziereisen have earned a cult following for their uncompromising approach to viticulture and winemaking, focusing on low yields, organic farming principles and minimal intervention in the cellar. The vineyards lie in the far southwest of Baden near the Swiss border, where limestone-rich soils and a relatively cool climate produce wines of remarkable precision, freshness and mineral character. Talrain is sourced from carefully selected parcels that showcase the estate’s elegant, terroir-driven style.
Made from 100% Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir), the wine is fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged in traditional oak barrels, allowing complexity and texture to develop while preserving purity of fruit. The 2021 vintage highlights the cooler, more classical character of the year, producing a wine of finesse and structure rather than power. Aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry and cranberry are layered with rose petals, forest floor, subtle spice and crushed stone. The palate is finely textured and energetic, with bright acidity, refined tannins and a long, mineral finish. Elegant and age-worthy, it offers a Burgundian sense of precision while remaining unmistakably rooted in Baden’s limestone-rich terroir.
