Yves Cuilleron Traditional Method Sparkling Vionnier NV
Few producers would think of transforming Viognier, a grape celebrated for its exotic perfume and generous texture, into a traditional-method sparkling wine. Yet this cuvée showcases Yves Cuilleron's curiosity and versatility, exploring a different side of the variety while maintaining the elegance and precision that define his Northern Rhône wines. Made from Viognier grown around the estate in Chavanay, this wine reflects the influence of the granite landscapes of the Rhône Valley, where warm days, cool nights and careful vineyard work preserve the grape’s aromatic purity and freshness. Rather than creating a simple sparkling wine, Cuilleron applies the same attention to detail found in his Condrieu and Saint-Joseph bottlings, allowing Viognier’s floral character and natural richness to shine through a refined traditional-method expression.
Produced from 100% Viognier and crafted using the traditional method, with a second fermentation in bottle followed by ageing on the lees, this cuvée combines the aromatic intensity of Viognier with the finesse and complexity associated with bottle-aged sparkling wines. The bouquet is expressive and elegant, showing notes of white peach, apricot, pear, orange blossom, honeysuckle and jasmine alongside subtle brioche, almond and pastry nuances from lees ageing. On the palate, the wine is creamy yet fresh, with delicate bubbles, bright acidity and a long, refined finish balancing floral richness with mineral tension. A beautifully original interpretation of Viognier, it works brilliantly as an aperitif but also pairs with seafood, smoked salmon, shellfish, creamy cheeses and lighter Mediterranean dishes.
