Cuilleron Saint Joseph Serines Rouge 2022/2023
Yves Cuilleron is a third-generation winemaker in the Northern Rhône whose domaine spans around 100 hectares across top appellations like Condrieu, Côte-Rôtie, Saint-Joseph, Cornas and more. He practices sustainable viticulture, meaning no insecticides, minimal treatments, green harvesting and meticulously hand-worked vineyards. Since 2015 he has bottled individual lieux-dits, reflecting his passion for terroir and precision. Saint-Joseph is known for its diverse exposures and granite-based soils, producing Syrah with aromatic finesse and mineral drive.
Made from a selection of old sélection massale vines (i.e. grown from cuttings from the same vineyard), planted on south/southeast facing hillside terraces. “Les Serines” is not a district; it refers to the local name for Syrah. The grapes are hand-picked, partially destemmed and fermented with native yeasts in open vats. Malolactic conversion takes place in French oak barriques (some new). The wine is then aged for 16-18 months in the barriques, gaining texture while retaining freshness. Expect mulled black plum, blackberry, lavender, white pepper and garrigue, framed by fine tannins; excellent with roast lamb, venison or truffle-rich dishes
