Yves Cuilleron Condrieu 'Chaillets' 2014
Among the most revered hillside vineyards of Condrieu, Chaillets is a site where Viognier achieves a rare balance between opulence and precision. Perched on steep granite slopes above the Rhône Valley, this historic lieu-dit is defined by its south-facing exposure and poor decomposed granite soils, which encourage naturally low yields and produce wines of extraordinary aromatic intensity. The warmth captured by the slope allows Viognier to develop its signature floral richness and exotic fruit character, while the mineral structure of the granite brings freshness and length. Yves Cuilleron, one of the leading figures of the Northern Rhône, has dedicated much of his career to revealing the individuality of these exceptional sites. The 2014 vintage was a particularly successful year for Condrieu, producing wines with expressive aromatics, generous texture and the balance required for long-term ageing.
Crafted from 100% Viognier, Chaillets 2014 was fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured in French oak before extended bottle ageing. Compared with the more restrained and classical 2013 vintage, this wine shows a richer and more immediately expressive personality, with aromas of ripe peach, apricot, nectarine and pear complemented by honeysuckle, jasmine, orange blossom, vanilla, toasted almond and subtle spice. The palate is generous and silky, with the characteristic richness of Condrieu beautifully balanced by vibrant acidity and a mineral, saline finish that keeps the wine fresh and precise. Now showing the complexity that comes with age, it offers a captivating combination of floral perfume, creamy texture and savoury depth. An exceptional partner for lobster, scallops, roast chicken with morels, foie gras, creamy cheeses and refined Mediterranean cuisine.
