Description

Weninger Dürrau 2018 comes from Weingut Weninger, a family owned estate in Horitschon, Burgenland, Austria. The vineyards are farmed under certified biodynamic standards (Demeter & Respekt), emphasising healthy soil, biodiversity and natural cycles. The vines grow partly on a ridge called Dürrau, which is a deep, clay rich loamy soil. The estate’s philosophy embraces sustainability and nature friendly viticulture, and the wine is produced vegan friendly.

The 2018 Dürrau is made from 100% Blaufränkisch, from vines planted in 1960 on the Dürrau ridge. After hand harvest and spontaneous fermentation (no commercial yeasts), the wine matures in 500 litre barrels (natural wood, minimal oak imprint) for about 24 months before bottling. The result is a full bodied, elegant red with ripe berry fruits, peppery spice and minerality, refined acidity and a long, balanced finish. It pairs wonderfully with game, stews, braised beef or charcuterie.
