In the immediate vicinity of the Von Winning winery, on the outskirts of Deidesheim, lies the south-facing Grand Cru vineyard, first mentioned in 1412 as ‘an der Gryne’. The soils have a high proportion of weathered variegated sandstone, marly clay, and Tertiary limestone. The riesling from this vineyard typically has a delicated and light-bodied character. Thanks to spontaneous fermentation and patient aging on the lees in French oak tonneaux, the nose initially reveals fine almond notes, along with hints of white tea, fragrant buddleia, and intense notes of white peach. A cool herbal spiciness, reminiscent of mint and lemon balm, hovers over these aromas. On the palate, it is juicy and precise, with a lively acidity and a long, spicy-fruity finish.
