Vicoletto Catarratto 2025
Rallo is one of Sicily’s historic family estates, founded in Marsala in 1860 and today run by the Vesco family across vineyards in western Sicily, including Alcamo, Marsala and Pantelleria. Vicoletto comes from the elevated, sandy hills around Alcamo, where the higher altitude and cooler nights help slow ripening and preserve freshness in the island’s warm climate. The estate has farmed organically since 2010, and Vicoletto reflects Rallo’s more natural approach to expressing Sicily’s indigenous varieties.
Made from 100% Catarratto, Vicoletto is an orange wine with 10% of the grapes undergoing 12 days of skin contact fermentation, while the remainder ferments off the skins. Both portions ferment spontaneously with indigenous yeasts before being blended, with the finished wine bottled unfined, unfiltered and without added sulphur. Slightly hazy and bright, it shows grapefruit, lemon peel, yellow apple and white-fleshed fruit alongside Mediterranean herbs. Fresh acidity and a subtle tannic grip give it more texture than a conventional white. Serve lightly chilled rather than ice-cold, with Sicilian pasta, pane e panelle, grilled fish, seafood, charcuterie, soft cheeses or aromatic vegetable dishes.
