Valentini Cerasuolo d Abruzzo 2024
Valentini is one of Abruzzo’s most historic and revered estates, based in Loreto Aprutino and farmed by the Valentini family since the seventeenth century. The domaine achieved international renown under Edoardo Valentini, whose uncompromising traditional philosophy transformed the reputation of the region’s wines, and today it is run by his son Francesco Paolo Valentini. The vineyards lie between the Adriatic Sea and the Gran Sasso mountains at elevations of around 250-400 metres, planted on clay and limestone soils rich in calcareous material, which provide both structure and freshness. Viticulture follows traditional, sustainable practices without certification, and the wines are made with minimal intervention. The 2024 vintage in Abruzzo benefited from balanced growing conditions, producing wines with vibrant acidity, aromatic clarity and excellent balance.
Valentini Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo 2024 is made from 100% Montepulciano, produced using a short maceration to extract its characteristic deep cherry colour and structure. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts, followed by ageing for several months in inert vessels and bottle before release, preserving purity and freshness. The wine shows expressive aromas of wild strawberry, cherry, blood orange and floral notes, alongside subtle savoury and mineral complexity. The palate is textured and energetic, with refreshing acidity and gentle tannic grip, making it ideal with grilled fish, charcuterie, roast chicken and Mediterranean dishes. It is drinking beautifully now but has the structure to evolve over five to ten years, gaining complexity. Antonio Galloni of Vinous has previously described Valentini’s Cerasuolo as “one of the most distinctive and compelling rosé wines in Italy,” praising its depth and ageing potential.
