Vago Mezcal is an artisanal producer that collaborates with independent mezcaleros across Oaxaca, Mexico, preserving traditional family methods passed down through generations. Vago Elote is produced by mezcalero Aquilino GarcĂa LĂłpez in the village of Candelaria YegolĂ©, where EspadĂn agave is cultivated in rocky, mineral-rich limestone and clay soils. The high-altitude terroir, warm days and cool nights encourage slow agave maturation, while sustainable harvesting practices help maintain healthy agave populations and local biodiversity.
Vago Elote is crafted from 100% EspadĂn agave, which is roasted in underground earthen pits, naturally fermented and double-distilled in copper stills. During the second distillation, roasted maize is suspended inside the still, imparting a distinctive sweet, savoury character without oak ageing. The mezcal offers aromas of roasted agave, sweetcorn, herbs and gentle smoke, with a rich palate of honey, buttered corn, citrus and pepper, finishing long and silky.
