Christian Tschida is one of Austria’s leading natural wine producers, based in Illmitz in Burgenland near Lake Neusiedl. His wines are produced from organically farmed vineyards worked according to biodynamic principles, with an emphasis on biodiversity, low yields and minimal intervention. The warm Pannonian climate is moderated by cooling influences from the lake, helping preserve freshness and aromatic precision. Vineyard soils are a mix of limestone, gravel and sandy loam, contributing mineral tension and finesse. Tschida’s wines are typically vegan friendly as they are bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulphur additions. The 2023 vintage produced energetic, beautifully balanced wines with excellent purity.

Brutal Magnum 2023 is a blend of Pinot Noir and touch of Blaufränkisch, combining the elegance and perfume of Pinot with the freshness and spice of Blaufränkisch. The grapes are hand harvested and fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, often with partial whole bunch fermentation to add structure and aromatic lift. The wine is aged for several months in large old oak barrels before bottling unfined and unfiltered. It shows aromas of wild strawberry, sour cherry and cranberry with floral, peppery and earthy notes. The palate is vibrant, juicy and lightly textured with bright acidity and a savoury mineral finish. It pairs especially well with charcuterie, roast poultry, grilled vegetables and smoky Mediterranean dishes.
