Stefano Occhetti Roero DOCG Sanche 2022 is produced by Stefano Occhetti, a young, passionate vigneron based in Monteu Roero in Piedmont, Italy. Stefano returned to his family’s vineyards and now cultivates old Nebbiolo vines in the famed Sanche cru of Vezza d’Alba, working steep, sandy soils by hand to express Roero’s unique elegance and aromatic lift. The vineyards benefit from excellent sun exposure and cool nights typical of the Roero hills, and viticulture is careful and sustainable in approach.
The 2022 Roero DOCG Sanche is made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes, hand-harvested in late September or early October. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in wood, with a traditional submerged-cap maceration for 20–25 days to extract colour and flavour before malolactic fermentation in wood. The wine is then aged for about 17 months in French oak barrels and tonneaux, allowing complexity and structure to develop while keeping freshness. It shows a ruby-red hue with orange highlights and delivers a fresh bouquet of red fruits and floral notes with soft, well-balanced tannins and persistent length. Serve at 16–18 °C with rich pasta dishes, roasted meats, game or aged cheeses.
