Simon Busser took over his family domaine in Prayssac in 2007, in the heart of Cahors in south-west France. He farms organically, working the vineyards by hand and with horses, with old Côt vines rooted in the terraces of the Lot Valley. The region's warm, sunny climate is tempered by the river and surrounding hills, while the area's gravelly, sandy and clay-limestone soils help give the wines freshness, minerality and an expressive sense of place. Busser's wines are made according to a natural, low intervention approach.
À Bras le Côt 2023 is made from 100% Côt, the local name for Malbec, from younger vines. The grapes are fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts and macerated on their skins for four weeks before ageing for 12 months in large barrels and stainless steel tanks. Bottled unfined, unfiltered and without added sulphites, it is vibrant and juicy, with aromas of blackberry, black cherry and plum alongside violets, spice and earthy mineral notes. Fresh acidity and supple tannins give it an energetic, approachable character. Enjoy it with roast duck, lamb, grilled sausages, charcuterie, mushrooms and hard cheeses.
