Description

Produced by Roka in the rolling hills of Slovenian Styria (Štajerska Slovenija), this Furmint is the creation of Liam and Sinéad Cabot, a couple originally from the west of Ireland who fell in love with Slovenia’s remarkable wine-growing landscape and established their small family estate in the village of Kog in 2007. Farming just two hectares of mature vines, they have embraced a philosophy of sustainable viticulture and minimal intervention, allowing the region’s distinctive terroir to shine through. The vineyards are planted on steep slopes of marl and sandstone soils, while the cool Alpine-Pannonian climate, with its warm days and crisp nights, enables Furmint to ripen slowly, preserving its naturally vibrant acidity and mineral precision. Produced in very limited quantities, Roka’s wines are a true reflection of place, crafted with authenticity and care.

Made from 100% Furmint, the wine is fermented before ageing on its fine lees to enhance texture while retaining freshness and varietal purity. Aromas of green apple, quince and ripe pear are complemented by notes of citrus zest, white blossom, wet stone and subtle herbal nuances. The palate is dry, vibrant and beautifully structured, combining crisp acidity with a layered texture and a distinctive saline minerality that reflects the region’s marl-rich soils. Fresh, elegant and highly versatile at the table, Roka Furmint offers a modern expression of this historic variety, pairing beautifully with seafood, freshwater fish, poultry and vegetable-based dishes.
