Puech Noble Blanc 2023
Puech Noble is a vineyard and wine project in the Côteaux du Languedoc pursued by the Rostaing family, led by winemaker René Rostaing of Côte-Rôtie fame. The estate sits in a cooler Languedoc microclimate near Nîmes, benefiting from Mediterranean sunshine tempered by altitude and breezes, which helps preserve freshness and aromatic precision. Soils are predominantly limestone based with varied clay and galets roulés that lend minerality and character. Viticulture is sustainable and low intervention, with careful canopy management and limited chemical inputs, though the vineyards are not formally certified organic or biodynamic. The 2023 vintage in the Languedoc was marked by warm, ripe conditions balanced by cool nights, producing aromatically expressive and structured whites.
Puech Noble Blanc 2023 is a harmonious white blend composed of approximately 50% Grenache Blanc, 45% Vermentino (Rolle) and 5% Viognier, combining body, citrus intensity and floral nuance. Grapes are gently pressed and fermented with indigenous yeasts at cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness and clarity, followed by around eight months of ageing on fine lees, with no oak influence, to maintain purity of fruit and texture. The wine shows lifted aromas of white flowers, citrus zest, peach and almond on the nose, with a vibrant palate of crisp acidity, saline minerality and a long, refreshing finish. It pairs beautifully with grilled fish, seafood salads, ceviche, roast chicken and fresh goat cheeses. Drinking well in its youth, the 2023 Blanc also has structural freshness that suggests it can evolve gracefully for several years.
