Description

Produced by Cantine Paolo Leo in Puglia, southern Italy, Primanero Appassimento reflects the region’s tradition of producing deeply flavoured wines from indigenous grape varieties. Paolo Leo is a family-owned estate based in Salento, combining local heritage with modern winemaking. The vineyards benefit from a warm Mediterranean climate and cooling influences from the Adriatic and Ionian Seas. Planted on limestone and clay-rich soils, the vines produce concentrated fruit, while the appassimento method enhances richness, texture and aromatic intensity.

Made from a blend of Primitivo and Negroamaro, a portion of the grapes undergoes partial drying before vinification to concentrate flavour and colour. The wine shows aromas of black cherry, plum and blackberry alongside notes of dried fig, cocoa and sweet spice. The palate is full-bodied and velvety, with ripe tannins, rich dark fruit and subtle chocolatey depth balanced by fresh acidity. Smooth and approachable, it captures the richness of the appassimento style while retaining freshness, pairing beautifully with roasted meats, hearty pasta dishes and mature cheeses.
