Porto Carras is a historic estate in Halkidiki in northern Greece, founded in the 1960s and known for pioneering modern viticulture in the region. The vineyards lie on the slopes of Mount Meliton overlooking the Aegean Sea, benefiting from a warm Mediterranean climate moderated by cooling sea breezes. Soils are varied, including schist, sandy loam and clay, which contribute both structure and freshness. The estate has been a leader in organic viticulture in Greece, with certified organic vineyards and a strong focus on biodiversity and environmental sustainability.
Porto Carras Mainland Assyrtiko 2024 is made from 100% Assyrtiko, vinified in stainless steel at controlled temperatures to preserve its bright, varietal character. The wine is aged on fine lees for around 3 months, enhancing texture while maintaining freshness and clarity. It shows aromas of lemon, lime and green apple with subtle mineral and saline notes. The palate is crisp and vibrant with refreshing acidity and a clean finish. It pairs well with seafood, grilled fish, shellfish and light Mediterranean dishes.
