Description

Pizzorno’s Reserva Albariño takes a more substantial approach to a variety that has found an interesting home in Uruguay. The fruit comes from the family’s estate in Canelón Chico, where maritime influence helps preserve Albariño’s naturally high acidity while the warm growing season allows ripe citrus and stone-fruit flavours to develop. The vineyard soils are shallow, permeable loamy-clay with calcareous elements, and Pizzorno manages the estate with an emphasis on environmental care, including rational water use and careful control of vine growth. The result is a fuller interpretation of Albariño, retaining the variety’s characteristic freshness while adding greater texture and depth.

Made from 100% Albariño, the wine is divided between two maturation methods: 70% remains in stainless steel, preserving the bright, precise fruit, while 30% is aged separately in French oak for six months before the components are blended. The oak-aged portion adds weight and subtle layers of vanilla, toast and spice without making the wine overtly oaky. Grapefruit, lime, ripe pear and white peach combine with white flowers and a lightly saline mineral character. Lively acidity keeps the palate focused, balancing the richer texture and carrying through to a long, clean finish. Serve with grilled fish, scallops, prawns, lobster, ceviche or richer seafood dishes, as well as roast poultry.
