Piquentum is a small, family-owned winery near Buzet in the Istrian peninsula of Croatia, run by Dimitri Brecevic. The estate focuses on hand-harvested, minimal-intervention viticulture, practising sustainable farming on terraced vineyards planted primarily with indigenous varieties. The soils are mainly white flysch with some iron-rich karst, and the Mediterranean climate with cool night breezes helps preserve natural acidity and aromatic intensity.
Piquentum Malvazija 2021 is made from 100% Malvazija Istarska (Istrian Malvasia) grapes. After a brief skin contact of around three to four days, fermentation takes place with native yeasts in approximately 70% oak barrels and 30% stainless steel. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered, producing a bright golden colour with fresh, vibrant acidity. Aromas and flavours include citrus peel, orchard fruit, Mediterranean herbs and a subtle earthy minerality. It pairs beautifully with grilled seafood, fresh salads, light pasta dishes or goat’s cheese and is best served lightly chilled.
