Pierre Menard Varenne de Chanze 2021
Pierre Ménard is a pioneering winemaker in the Anjou region of the Loire Valley, renowned for his commitment to organic and biodynamic farming practices. His estate is situated in the Varenne de Chanze vineyard which is one of the most esteemed sites in the Anjou appellation. It features steep slopes that have a southern exposure on schist and weathered spilite soils. These conditions impart a unique minerality and tension to the grapes crafting expressive, terroir-driven Chenin Blancs.
The Varenne de Chanze is a dry Chenin Blanc that undergoes natural fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Aged for approximately 10 months in neutral oak barrels on its lees, the wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered, preserving its purity and complexity. Expect aromas of quince, lemon tart, and candied citrus leading to a palate that's both indulgent and tense with great persistence. Ideal pairings include roasted poultry, goat's cheese, and dishes featuring earthy mushrooms.
