Pierre Gonon Saint Joseph Blanc 'Les Oliviers' 2024
Produced by Domaine Pierre Gonon in the northern Rhône, 'Les Oliviers; comes from one of the region’s most revered family estates. The Gonon brothers, Pierre and Jean Gonon, have earned an international reputation for producing some of the purest and most terroir-driven wines in Saint-Joseph, working with a philosophy rooted in traditional farming, low yields and minimal intervention. The estate’s vineyards are located on steep granite slopes around Mauves and Tournon-sur-Rhône, where old vines, meticulous manual vineyard work and sustainable practices allow for an authentic expression of the appellation. Demand for the domaine’s wines far exceeds production, making them among the most sought-after bottlings in the northern Rhône.
Made from 80% Marsanne and 20% Roussanne, the traditional white varieties of Saint-Joseph, Les Oliviers is vinified with indigenous yeasts and aged with a restrained approach that prioritises texture and terroir over overt winemaking influence. The 2024 displays aromas of white peach, pear and citrus blossom alongside notes of honeysuckle, almond and crushed granite. The palate is layered and precise, combining the richness and texture of Marsanne with the freshness and aromatic lift of Roussanne. A vibrant mineral backbone and bright acidity bring energy and definition to the wine, while its concentration and balance suggest excellent ageing potential. Elegant yet quietly powerful, it is a benchmark expression of northern Rhône white wine, pairing beautifully with seafood, poultry, creamy sauces and aged cheeses.
