Petit Roy Les Mosnieres 2023
Domaine Petit Roy, established by Seiichi Saito in 2017, is a small, biodynamic estate located in Chorey-lès-Beaune, Burgundy. Drawing from his extensive experience working with renowned domaines such as Leflaive, Rousseau, and Simon Bize, Saito applies meticulous care in both vineyard and cellar. The estate's vineyards are farmed organically and biodynamically, though not officially certified. Saito avoids the use of new oak, practices minimal sulphur use and refrains from fining or filtering, aligning with vegan-friendly principles. Les Mosnières is a 0.34-hectare plot situated on a calcareous slope in the Côte de Beaune planted with Chardonnay vines that benefit from a southwest exposure, contributing to the wine's purity and mineral character.
The 2023 Les Mosnières Chardonnay is crafted with minimal intervention to highlight the terroir. The grapes undergo whole-cluster pressing directly into 228L used French oak barrels where fermentation occurs over two months. The wine is then aged for 12 months in barrel, followed by an additional 3 months in stainless steel tank. Bottled without fining or filtration and with minimal sulphur dioxide, it offers aromas of spring blossoms, white peach and a hint of croissant. The palate is fresh and airy with high acidity and a long, mouthwatering finish. This wine pairs beautifully with seafood dishes, goat's cheese or light poultry preparations.
